Position
Summary:
The responsibility of the Tufting Technician is to changeover, set up, and operate any Tufting Machine and to load and unload Tufting Machine with the goal of first quality carpet manufacture.
Educational requirements:
High school diploma or GED required Skills and
Experience:
Two Years Tufting experience with Interface preferred Basic mathematical skills required Demonstrated Leadership skills preferred Good communication skills, verbal and written Must have normal color vision or average to above-average shade discernment Interface White Belt and 6S Training preferred Basic Computer Skills Essential duties:
Consult with Team Leader for run priority Check run schedule for any special instructions Conduct style changes and weight checks on all Tufting machines and set to the proper specifications Compare all new runs to the Standard Master for Run Approval Approve all quality for each Tufted order Check current roll for anything unusual (lines, pattern, shade).
Check for crossed ends and correct Assist in all change overs to minimize downtime Rethread the machine in the case of ends out or crossed ends Load and Unload creels for each order, as needed Inspect face and back of all the carpet as it comes out of the Tufting machines and identify defects Attempt to mend all runs and holes in carpet (using the appropriate mending yarn and gun provided), Continuously monitor rolls for first quality Alert the Fixer for any mechanical issues and defects that require mechanical repair Minimize carpet pileup before rollup in order to minimize stretch Doff the rolls of carpet after they reach the specified length and label Assist with all backing changes made during the shift Cut master for each new style Check all items listed above on that machine before starting Develop a working knowledge of machine in order to correct any off quality carpet Maintain a place for scrap yarn and carpet to be kept for later recycling Maximize recycling of all recyclable materials and minimize waste Assist in giving breaks to other Operators to minimize machine downtime by watching and operating their machines while they are on break Assist others in general Deposit all yarn and carpet scraps into a specific container for later recycling Perform 6S audits and assignments Comply with safety rules Comply with environmental regulations Be aware of departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) Ensure ISO procedures are followed.
Understand and support Interface commitment to sustainability.
Perform other duties as assigned Maintain Housekeeping Physical demands:
Standing - 90% of shift Walking up and down stairs Considerable standing Occasional Pushing & Pulling wheeled cart with up to 360 lbs load Occasional lifting of up to 25lbs Occasional 12 hour shifts.
Occasional changing of primary backing rolls Work environment:
